The working principle of a hydraulic shear is pretty simple.
It just uses a hydraulic system to drive a cylinder, generating a strong force that pushes the blade to cut the material. Different types of shearing machines are designed for different materials too-some are for plastics, some for metals-but the basic idea is the same.

What makes this combo punching and shearing machine nice to use really comes down to a few key design details.
- On the punching side, the worktable can move around, so it's pretty flexible. Swap in different dies and you can punch all kinds of shapes-odd holes, slots, bends … even punching holes on the edges of channel steel or I-beams is no problem.
- For angle cutting, the shear plate can be set on either side or along the edge. When you're cutting bigger angle steel, you use a larger-radius blade so the material doesn't deform. For smaller angles, just switch to a smaller-radius blade. And when the blade gets dull, no rush-you can just flip it or use the other side and keep going.
- The standard shearing section isn't just for plates and flat bars-you can also use it to clean up edges. Cut the material roughly first, then bring it here to trim the corners or angles nice and clean.
- Maintenance is easy too-when it's time to sharpen, you only really need to grind the front and sides, nothing complicated. Overall, it's one of those machines where once you start using it, everything just feels straightforward and practical.
