An Efficient and Intelligent Solution for Steel Cage Processing

In large-scale infrastructure projects such as bridges, high-speed railways, subways, and high-rise buildings, steel cages act as the "skeletons" of core components like pile foundations and piers. Their processing quality and efficiency directly affect project progress and structural safety. Traditional manual welding or single-gun automatic welding methods have drawbacks such as low efficiency, unstable weld quality, and high labor costs. The emergence of the steel cage winding machine combined with double-gun automatic welding equipment has completely revolutionized steel cage processing, achieving a transformation from "manual operation" to "intelligent automation." It has become the core equipment for batch and high-quality production of steel cages in modern infrastructure construction.

Core Composition and Working Principle

The steel cage winding machine (double-gun automatic welding) is an intelligent production line integrating steel bar feeding, winding and forming, double-gun synchronous welding, and automatic cutting. It is mainly composed of the following core components and realizes automated processing through precise coordination:

  •  Core Components

Main frame and drive system:
Made of welded high-strength section steel, it provides stable support for the equipment. Equipped with servo motors and precision reducers, it drives the main body of the steel cage (main bars) to rotate at a constant speed, ensuring winding accuracy.

Bar winding and feeding mechanism:
This mechanism conveys the coiled bars (stirrups) at a uniform and stable speed to the outside of the rotating main bars at preset intervals. The feeding speed can be synchronized in real time with the rotational speed of the main bars, ensuring a winding spacing error of ≤±2 mm.

Dual-gun automatic welding system:
As the core upgrade module, it is equipped with two high-performance welding guns symmetrically positioned on both sides of the steel cage. The welding guns track the position of the reinforcing bars in real time through sensors and automatically adjust their posture and welding parameters (current, voltage, and wire feeding speed).

Electrical control system:
Using a PLC programmable controller with a touch-screen interface, it can preset data such as cage diameter, number of main bars, winding spacing, and welding parameters, achieving one-click startup and fully automatic operation. The interface is simple and user-friendly.

Auxiliary mechanisms:
These include main bar positioning devices, steel cage support rollers, and automatic cutting units, ensuring that the main bars are neatly arranged and the steel cage is stably formed. After processing, the winding bars are automatically cut and discharged.

  • Working Process

Parameter setting:
Input parameters such as the steel cage diameter, length, number of main bars, winding spacing, and welding current through the touch screen. The equipment automatically plans the processing path.

Main reinforcement feeding:
Place the prefabricated main reinforcements into the slots of the positioning device to ensure even distribution around the circumference.

Reinforcement winding and welding:
After startup, the main reinforcements rotate at a constant speed with the drive system, while the winding mechanism synchronously wraps the reinforcement around the outside. Meanwhile, the double welding guns automatically follow the rotation of the bars and synchronously weld the intersection points between the winding bars and main bars to form firm joints.

Finished product cutting and unloading:
When the steel cage reaches the preset length, the machine automatically cuts the bars and stops running. The operator then removes the finished steel cage using the auxiliary device, completing one processing cycle.
